Coming into Tuesday's game at Carpinteria, Santa Ynez's water polo team had yet to be challenged.
That didn't change.
Santa Ynez moved to 4-0 on the season with a 20-10 win over the Warriors.
Keller Haws and Connor Hiatt each scored four goals while Nolan Morrison and Jacob Thielst each added three. Allen Clarke scored twice while Kyle O'Neill, Henry Allen, Spencer Lee and Jace Grieco also scored.
Santa Ynez goalkeeper Tristan Durbiano made eight saves and came up with three steals.
The Pirates jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter and were up 9-3 at halftime before they cruised to another win, outscoring Carpinteria 6-4 in the third and 5-3 in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates play at a tournament in Corona starting Friday. They'll take on Eastvale Roosevelt in the tournament opener.
“Everything is going as planned right now," Santa Ynez coach Jake Kalkowski said. "We're heavy on defense and we're spreading the scoring around. We'll be tested the next couple weeks. There are some really good teams at the tournament in Corona. We'll face Dos Pueblos and Rio Mesa in the next week.
"But we've been gearing up for this. The kids are playing good right now."
