805 Water Polo Club’s 16U Girls Take Silver at California Cup

The 805 Santa Barbara Water Polo Club’s 16U girls team won a silver medal at the California Cup Championships last weekend in Corona.

The 16s defeated Arroyo Grande and SET Gray in bracket play and then staged a fourth-quarter comeback to beat Commerce 10-9 in the quarterfinals.  

In the semifinals on Sunday Santa Barbara tied SoCal Black 6-6 in regulation and defeated the perennial powerhouse in a shootout.  In the final 805 fell 10-4 to top-seeded SET Black.

Led by coach Kodi Hill, the 16s included Hanalora Abel, Ava Bennett, Makena Bygrave, Francesca Court, Sofia Huebner, Naomi Enright, Alina King, Amber Nowaczek, Sophia Panossian, Addison Parrish, Layla Szymczak, Julie Sweeney, and Abigail Webber.  Nalani Yim went the distance in goal for the silver medalists.

Ventura League Championship

At the Ventura League Championships in Oxnard, the 805 14U girls defeated Santa Barbara Premier Blue (12-7), Westside (18-9), and the 805 14U boys to win the 14U Championship (12-8).

Coached by Sienna Van Alphen, the gold medalists include Scarlet Akin, Lily Bordofsky, Makena Bygrave, Shea Estabrook, Mia Fabros, Anneliese Holmes, Bethany King, and Margaret Watson.  Malaya Coleman was in goal. 

The 805 14U Boys defeated Santa Barbara Premier White (11-10) and Gold Coast Blue (7-4) before falling to the 805 14U girls in the final (8-12).  

Coached by Connor Levoff, the silver medalists include Paolo Borgioli, Eli Carnaghe, Tarkan Ezal, Jack Kramer, Nicholas Macaluso, Aricin Marshall, Grant Nelson, and AJ Scarborough.  Titus Fernandez played in goal for the 14s.

The 12U Girls defeated Santa Barbara Premier Blue (9-8), and the Gold Coast Sharks (10-6) before winning the championship in a shootout against the 805 12U boys (9-7).

Coached by Peera Sukavivatanachai and Annie Mortimer the 12U Girls are Josie Drabik, Devon Fitzgibbons, Talia Marshall, Luisa Martinez, Luna Morancey, Charlotte Neushul, Jade Pattison, Peyton Rosenthal, and McKenna Stuart.  Reagan Mack played in goal for the 12U Girls gold medalists.

The 12U Boys defeated Rosebowl Red (22-5) and South Coast Red (12-2) before losing to SB 805 12U girls (9-7).

Coached by Sukavivatanachai, the 12 boys include Ty Abel, Cody Clark, Issac Jackson, Brandon Lee, Tyler Racine, Indiana Roth, Kumani Roth, and Ryder Wilson.  Mason Walsh went the distance in goal for the silver medalists.
